Cannot persist subtitles

I know that this issue has been discussed many times but I couldn't find out why it's not working for me. I'm trying to have subtitles persist once I download them (so I don't have to download them again when I want to watch another time).

In Settings I've got it set to save subtitles next to the video. The video folder is owned by 'kodi' user and when I download them I can see them appear correctly in the video folder but after a second or so the file disappears again.

When I set Custom subtitle folder in the Settings I'm getting "Cannot download subtitles" error every time I try to download any subtitles. It's not a problem with privileges - again the custom folder is owned and writable by 'kodi' user.

I'm using Raspbian and repo Kodi 17.1.

Any ideas?

Manual add

Is it possible to manually download and add a subtitle when using Kodi?

The subtitle add-on is not working for me. It managed to get it to work exactly once. I downloaded and installed subtitle for one movie. Now I just gives an error and tells me to check the log file. Which I wont do, refuse to do, as a matter of principle.

The better way to do this is to manually download and install and not let add-ons do that. Hoping that Kodi will be able to use subtitles. It is a basic function so I am hoping Kodi can perform it.

I have download a subtitle. How can I add it to a movie? How can I do that?
Thanks,
Onno

Hi there

I’m watching Game of Thrones on Kodi box via Isteam and everything fine apart from when they speak in another language the subtitles don’t come up. I followed the instructions of installing Subscene and have installed and added it successfully to the language part in settings.

However when I tried to download the subtitles and match with the same speed link type file like 720p or HD type file it does not Sync correctly and it is all audio subtitles that are displayed not just the different language parts as I said it doesn’t sync at the same speed when playing.

I’ve tried to link up the same subtitle download speed as the file speed episode type file I’m watching and it still doesn’t sync up correctly.

I’ve tried read up on how to change the subtitle language to only display a non-language type but I can’t find that option on my language settings on my box.

I don’t much about files names/codes tbh, when I go to watch an episode I choose a random link I think might work or choose one that is title HD high quality named one.

I’ve also tried to search a program name and put in with English subtitles and the search engine doesn’t work.

Please can you advise of a work around for this issue?

Thanks Frown

Saving subtitles WITHOUT language-code

Since a few versions ago Kodi has changed the way updates work, and has removed the option to save subtitles without a language code (afaik).

Because of this, subtitles downloaded through Kodi's subtitle addon can no longer be found by my DVR (which only opens subtitles if the file names match exactly).
My question therefore is:

Is there a way for me to setup Kodi to NOT include language codes in the subtitles when renaming them?

I hardly ever download any other subtitles but english ones, so I don't really need the language code or the language-meta in Kodi.

how do i stop kodi searching for subs when I try to play a video

I obviously did something at one stage to make this happen ie I start to play a video in kodi. It will play for second. Then stop and display a list of subs, or say something like "No subs found"
Can anyone tell me, how to turn this off, please?
I have tried going into system/video/subtitles and changing default language to none. But that didn't work.

Closed Caption Issues

I'm hoping someone can help me with the following issue:

I lost my hearing a few months ago and now use closed caption with Kodi on my Windows computer. The CC starts off fine, but after a while, it's either behind or ahead of the movie or TV show. I know how to adjust the offset feature, but it's a pain to stop the movie every 10 min. or so to do it. Is there a better way for me to set up the CC feature? Or perhaps one subtitle download is better than another for correcting this problem.....

This problem happens even if there is no buffering of the movie or TV show......

Thanks in advance ........

No subtitles found - for the last 3 weeks now

For the last 3 weeks I have the problem that I dont get any subtitles at all.

I use Kodi 17 on a QNAP NAS - it worked great wit subscene which I prefer for subtitles- but for the last 3 weeks whenever I start a movie and then manually go to Subtitles I immediatly get shown "No subtitles found" - theres no "Searching for subtitles beforehand.

I tried many times to enter the manual searchstring - different ways in writing - always the same result.
I also checked with subscene online if subtitles are availabe - and I see that theres a subtitle for my movie available.

Then I installed other AddOns like Argentime and OpenSubtitles - but with same problem - No subtitles found.

I checked all the settings possible - but found no way to set anything - but I also ddnt change anything for the last 3 weeks.

So - has subscene mybe chenged something during the last month ?
Or has anyone an idea what I should check or do ?

I have a broadband internet hee with 16mbps so it cant be a slow connection or timeouts.

Indication of subtitle search/download

Hi guys,

I've been using several subtitle services with Kodi successfully, but sometimes services go down or take longer to respond than usual.

Right now with the skin that I'm using (Mimic), I don't have any indication when Kodi is contacting a service to retrieve a subtitle list or when downloading a subtitle.

Since the subtitle service work through a popup, I would suggest maybe adding a loading symbol in the popup window itself (since it's not certain that the top bar will be visible when the popup displays).

If you need any more details to this request, don't be afraid to ask Big Grin!

Thanks in advance

convert subtitle to UTF-8

hello everyone,

i’ve been using Kodi for a longtime and this problem existed since kodi’s first days. whenever i download a subtitle which is in arabic, it shows weird characters they are unreadable. to solve this i have to first download the .srt file via computer and convert it to a UTF-8 .srt file and then browse the file in kodi and add it. i just wanted to know if there is any other solution rather than using a computer and do the whole process in kodi itself. if there was a function in the kodi settings or an addon which could fix this, would be great. i tried to contact the kodi developer team to bring an update to fix this ever existed problem but couldn’t find the way to contact them.
i took a photo klik on the link to see.

Good non-English source?

Hello! I'm trying to watch Game of Thrones and I like to watch with all subtitles on however when someone begins speaking in Dothraki or the other GOT original languages it just says "speaks in dothraki" or nothing at all. I have been going to YouTube to watch those sections, it's incredibly annoying. Is there anything I can do to have all foreign subtitles show up? A certain source or anything? Thanks!
Also if it helps I'm running Krypton on Mac OS Serria.

Using Teletext on KODI ver. 17.3

Hello,

I would like to use the Teletext on my KODI.

I have a KODI version 17.3 (May 25, 2017 build), running on an ancient Raspberry PI model A with Raspbian GNU/Linux. I was checking the settings for enabling Teletext and those seem to be enabled. I was testing Teletext on KODI over remote DVB-T Multicast stream by starting it from the .strm file on KODI. I receive DVB-T stream over Multicast from another server. I have CEC enabled to use KODI with the TV remote control on the TV which is connected over HDMI from the Raspberry PI. The Multicast stream will only display video and audio on KODI / TV, but not Teletext. I tried pressing several different knobs/keys on the remote control - those which are ment for Teletext but it doesn't react (has no effect) ? I am interested if I need to enable Teletext parameters anywhere or maybe even in the CEC settings (if they aren't enabled by default) ? I tried relaying the Multicast stream to a different computer and opening it with VLC player and using VLC Teletext mode and that works, it is the same stream that I was testing also on the KODI.

Maybe someone has a suggestion how to resolve this ?

Thanks.
