All subtitle addons have stopped working for me

Hi all. I've been using KODI for some time, and currently use the latest version with a Sony Android TV. Just recently I cannot use the subtitle fetching addons.. They all display "error searching for subtitles", so matter which one I choose.

Local subtitles work fine, but strangely (but perhaps coincidentally) I've noticed lots of files say they have "local subtitles available" when in fact they do not.

I have had some recent internet problems, but they are solved to the point that, for example, the YouTube app for the TV works absolutely fine, fast as can be and displays results perfectly. I'm currently using Google's DNS, but that seems to have had no effect with the subtitle issue.

Any ideas would be great – I have tried reinstalling KODI and the sub addons, to no avail. I've also tried selecting a local save location, instead of "next to file".. this did seem to help for 1 or 2 files, but it now doesn't work no matter which option I choose.

Apologies for not being able to post a log.. not sure how to do that from my TV (maybe someone can point me in the right direction). Unfortunately I'm unable to work out if the subtitle issue is related to my internet connection, an Android issue, or something else..

Maybe that has been discussed already, so apologies if I'm rehashing.

In the old XBMC there was a setting for Primary Language and Secondary Language. Let's say my main language is Spanish, but there are no such subtitles for what I wish to watch, it would then look for subtitles in my secondary setting (let's say English).

I can only find a primary language setting in Kodi 16.1. I'm using the Auto Subs addon to auto download, but as I can only set primary, it does not auto look (or download) for the secondary.

Is there some addon or workaround I can use to set a secondary?

Another thing, when I set it to a specific subtitles site, it will only look there and won't try the next (if non were found) or if I set it to None it will only search the first one on the list of and not move to the next. In the old XBMC Subtitles addon there was had a setting to "Search next available service if no results are found".

Automatic load of external .srt subtitles for BluRay folder?

Hello,

is there any way in Kodi (with or without an add-on) to automatically load index.srt subtitles (or any other .srt subtitles) while playing index.bdmv within BluRay folder?
Environment: Odroid C2, LibreELEC 7.0.2, Kodi Jarvis 16.1

1) Folder structure:
Movie (2016)\BDMV\index.bdmv
Movie (2016)\BDMV\index.srt
Movie (2016)\BDMV\index.English.srt
Movie (2016)\BDMV\Movie (20116).srt
2) Navigate to Movie (2016)\BDMV
3) Play index.bdmv
4) Select correct Title
5a) Observed behavior: No external .srt subtitles from BDMV folder are loaded.
5b) Expected behavior: Movie plays with at least one external .srt subtitle from Movie (2016)\BDMV folder.

I am not interested in subtitle downloading services solution as well as opening external subtitles manually through audio/language menu. I am also not interested in solution with putting the .srt subtitles into STREAM or PLAYLIST folders and naming it exactly as the title i would like to play.

Isn't there at least some addon with simple functionality like add all "nearby" .srt subtitles from the folder where the video is played?

Thank you for any tips or howtos from experienced kodi users.

Hi,

I have a jailbroken AppleTV2 running Kodi 14 (Helix) as per wiki.how.to-install-kodi-for-appletv2.

Some video files have built in subtitles which means not contained in separate files and not coded into the video stream. In VLC one can enable/disable as usual, in Kodi there are under Settings ...Subtitle settings, no "on/off" or "always play local subtitles" or some such, and with the Apple TV remote there is up / down = volume, forward/ back = ff/rewind, menu = go back to file listing menu, play/pause = play/pause - no apparent way to turn local subs on/off when playing pack a video file with local subs?

No matter what add on I use or which movie I try or which subtitle file I select, they all end the same way: "failed to download subtitle" with a red circle and a white 'X' in it.

(hopefully this link is to a screenshot of the error, in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.)

I would be grateful for any help in resolving this as I have tried several different English language subtitle providers (only really for forced parts or non-English spoken parts)

When I download the subtitle files on my computer, then copy them across to the subtitle folder I have selected, it works fine when I select that subtitle file in kodi.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that many subtitle providers are zipping their files, instead of keeping them in a subtitle file format, as I noticed this then it first stopped working months ago and I went to my computer to get them manually.

Hi all .... I have Kodi Jarvis installed and have a problem when downloading subtitles from subscene and OpenSubtitles.org I have added them and it brings up the list of subtitles to choose from however once I click on it, a message appears that tells me playback failed.

I have looked online for weeks for an answer and although I installed kodi and the addons myself I am not a techie so please bear with me! :-)

I will upload the log if this helps, I couldn't make any sense of it.

Subtitle offset crashes Kodi

Whenever i bring up subtitle offset Kodi will crash. The picture will freeze and the sound will keep going. I think it started when I tried to get a shortcut working for it, I didnt work for some reason and the problem persist even if I erase it.

Is there any tweak or method that allows me to only search for Forced (ala non-English or default language) subtitles and exclude the full CC versions displayed from opensubtitles.org?

Not even sure how this could be done without some standardization on the part of opensubtitle.org

Recently I decided to watch a few tutorials and read a few things about the best way to go about it. They all pointed to going into the video settings and setting up a default movie and tv subtitle add-on, more specifically Opensubtitles.org. I followed every step and no matter what I do or what adjustments I make my subtitles do not appear on the screen. I have no problems downloading them, I get no error messages of any kind but after the download screen disappears and I press play nothing appears. I am using Exodus on a Matricom G-Box

Hi all,

When wanting to download the subtitles for an episode, it seems to make the right query but the results show a query from the next item in the folder. This happens only in one particular folder, in all other folders it works just fine. Also when I use the manual search for the same item, I find the right subtitles.

The odd thing in this case is maybe the "S01E01E02 - Emissary.avi" episode, though it didn't fix the issue when I split this up into two episodes (resp. S01E01 and S01E02).

Any suggestions?

I'm currently using Jodi 16.1 on an android box. For some reason subtitles are not working. Both forced and download subtitles are not working. I would like to find a fix for this, but it seems that nothing is working.

sometimes I need to search for forced/foreign subs, is there a way to explicitly search for them?
Is there a particularly suitable subtitle addon for english or german forced/foreign subs?

Also I'd prefer subs in sub/idx format in general, but I never see them in opensubtitles addon. So maybe you can advice me an addon for them, too.

I installed subtitle service and it works great. However, I don't need them for most TV shows, so I turned them off. Now when I play a video, the subtitle menu still pops up at the beginning looking for subtitles. I have turned off subtitles every way I can thing of, disabling in the audio menu during video playback, setting subtitles to none in system settings, disabling the subtitle service itself, and even uninstalling the service. No matter what, the subtitle menu pops up at the beginning of the video playback. How do I stop that from happening?

Hi everyone! I have been using Kodi for some time now and I am a big fan. So far I was watching videos with English subs and everything was great. But since I am Greek I also wanted to be able to use Greek subtitles. I have installed the addons successfully, however the Greek encoding doesn't work if Kodi's interface is in English. As soon as I changed in Settings>Appearance>International the language to Greek my subtitles worked. So here is my question, is there a way to keep the interface language in English but still be able to encode Greek subs successfully?

hey guys,

I have tried using some subtitle add-ons lately. I have got it working but I'm missing subtitles for a lot of series/movies that should be available.

For example when using the subscene add-on it says that no subs are available. Then when I browse to subscene op my laptop and search for the title multiple subs are shown to be downloaded. Does anyone else have this problem? I have Dutch set as my preferred language in the settings, and secondly English.
