Subtitles add-on on PVR Client?

$

Hello,
I'm using the PVR Simple Client to load a M3U list with contents like live tv and movies & series on demand.
I understand that using subtitles on live tv depends on the tv network that's providing the signal.
Now, regarding movies & series on demand, even after configuring the subtitles add-on, it doesn't show the subtitles icon on the player. There is a subtitle section on the players settings, but it's always disabled (I think this is regarding the subtitles the service is providing).
Is there any way to use the subtitles add-on on PVR Simple Client when watching videos on demand?

Thanks!

How does the subtitle add-on detect the movie/episode name?

Hello,
I've been trying to use the subtitle add-on on the PVR Client while watching videos on demand (M3U list).
So, I tried the AutoSubs add-on and it works. The issue is that it never automatically finds the movie/episode name, instead it finds something like pvr.iptvsimple_1880954961.pvr.
I'm not a developer, but I was looking through the AutoSubs git and it seems that it's using the function getPlayingFile() to get the movie/episode name.
I'm guessing that the Subtitle Add-on is also using the same function and as I'm watching VOD, the PVR Client is probably setting a local temp file named pvr.iptvsimple_1880954961.pvr and that's why the Subtitle Add-on never finds a subtitle.
Should it be possible to change the add-on behavior to check if the client is using a M3U list and if so to get the name from the M3U properties?
Another option would be the PVR Client to set the temp file name as it shows in the M3U properties, but that question is for another forum.

Thanks.

Request - Accessing .SRT file for Firestick installation of Kodi fails from Kodi UPnP server

I have installed Kodi 18.0 on a machine in my home office, I have installed another Kodi client on a Firestick in my lounge.

All my digital movie files ripped from DVD'd or downloaded (Legally) are in a file folder with a compatible .srt file in the same folder or within a folder in the parent folder. When I watch movies or shows on the PC in the office the subtitles work as expected.

When I go to watch the same Movies/shows on the firestick in the lounge the subtitles wont load. I've tried browsing for them, but the .srt files don't show up during the browse.

I've installed the recommended Subtitle.org and Subscene addons but they seem to be unhappy with my naming conventions of my 'personally ripped movies and shows'. I imagine if i did a reverse search for the actual show and then renamed my ripped version to match, refreshed and tried again it might work... But shouldn't I be able to direct the Client to the .srt and have it work over my local network?

Am I doing something wrong? Is this an issue anyone else has run into and resolved? AM I a special kinda stupid and just doing it wrong?

Please help.

v18 - Subs menu change in V18

Hi,
I recently upgraded to Leia (through LibreElec ) and the subtillte behaviour changed. I'd ti change it back.

On v17, on a video, if I pressed the subtitle button, the download subtitles menu would show.
Since v18, the subtitles parameters menu shows and I have to select download subtitle.

Is there a way to configure the previous behavior back ?

PS: I tough the Sub add-ons folder was the most correct one but don't hesitate to move me to general support topic if needed.

How can I delete a subtitle that I downloaded from OpenSubTitles?

When watching a movie, I downloaded a subtitle through opensubtitles.org that, on first glance seemed correct.  However it did not correspond to the movie that I was watching.

Now, I want to delete the subtitle that I downloaded.

How do I do this?  Where is the file stored so I can delete it?

Hi,
I have noticed that videos with subtitles interlaced in video streams will not play.
While using mpv player or vlc player on the computer it is working just fine but once connected to kodi on Raspberry pie the subtitle is not recognized.
All the subtitle settings are on!
Have you any solution for that matter?
Thank you.

Subtitles background

Hello,
I just started using Kodi with Nvidia Shield, mostly with videos I have on an external HDD. Is there a way to add/enable a black background to the subtitles, though? I searched but I have yet to be successful to find a solution. Since my 76 yrs old mom often watches subtitled videos with me, and she has an eyes condition, it would help a lot.
The subtitles I’m using are .srt and are NOT automatically downloaded.

Thank you very much un advance

how to make kodi save subs for a movie that is on a remote resource

Hi!

so now I'm running KODI on an Android TV device. My primary use case is browsing family pictures out of my NAS, but from time to time I'd like to watch something out of my old movie collection.

SMB is not working, probably due to some Android related reason. (repeated the same steps and using same account on a KODI installed in Ubuntu works fine). But still I can get the movies play over plain HTTP.

Now to the issue. When I'm using KODI on a Linux box, I can download subs, and they stay available, so when I play the same movie again, subs are already there. When I do the same with Kodi on Android TV, the subs vanish and I have to download them again.

In bug reporting terms:

Preconditions:
- Kodi installed on 2 devices, Android TV and Linux. The Linux box has locally stored movies, Android TV over HTTP.
- opensubtitles installed and configured to download movies.

Steps taken:
- play movie
- use opensubtitles to download subs
- watch movie a bit (subs are there)
- stop the movie
- play the movie again

Expected result:
- the subs will be available

Obtained result:
- Linux installed KODI with local movies - subs are availabe
- AndroidTV - subs are not there, have to download them again.

So the questions are:
- where does KODI store the downloaded subs,
- is it the fault of AndroidTV version?
- is it the fault of the way my movies are made available for AndroidTV? If yes, then how should I make them available for the subs to stay available? SMB does not work in the Google Play version on Xiaomi Mibox S for some reason...

different types of subtitle settings at the same time?

hi, I've got a question regarding different types of subtitles:

Is it possible to set both:

regular subtitles for foreign-language content such as Ingobernable (Mexican TV Show)

AND

forced subtitles for (example) English-language content with bits of foreign-language like Narcos, Heroes, etc. ...

at the same time?

Thanks a lot !

Subtitle for non-english audio streams only

$

I recently upgraded to Kodi 18. My issue is with playing the right subtitle, rather than downloading them. I used to have a Kodi add-on that could detect the audio stream and then if it was Japanese, then it would use the English subtitles. My ideal preference would be to use English subtitles on everything non-English audio and then forced subtitles or nothing on everything English.

I can't seem to find this add-on anymore, and the only functionality I can get working on Kodi using the default settings is the forced subtitles on English. Any idea what I can do?

v18 - How to extract subtitles from RAR archive in Kodi 18 ?

$

Hello,

From what i've understood from various threads, it seems xbmc.extract does not work anymore for .rar in Kodi 18. Instead, we have to use external libraries (my addon -> Virtual Filesystems) vfs.rar (with rar://) or vfs.libarchive (archive://)

  • When I enable vfs.libarchive (and disable vfs.rar) and use below code:

__temp__ = '/storage/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/service.subtitles.zimuku/temp'
tempfile = '/storage/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/service.subtitles.zimuku/temp/subtitles.rar'
path = urllib.quote_plus(tempfile)
(dirs, files) = xbmcvfs.listdir('archive://%s' % (path))
for file in files:
  src = 'archive://' + path + '/' + file
  dest = os.path.join(__temp__, file)
xbmcvfs.copy(src, dest)
i got the following error:
ERROR: GetDirectory - Error getting archive://%2fstorage%2f.kodi%2fuserdata%2faddon_data%2fservice.subtitles.zimuku%2ftemp%2fsubtitles.rar/
But the rar file exists and the path is correct !

  • Now, when I enable vfs.rar (and disable vfs.libarchive) and use below code:

__temp__ = '/storage/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/service.subtitles.zimuku/temp'
tempfile = '/storage/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/service.subtitles.zimuku/temp/subtitles.rar'
path = urllib.quote_plus(tempfile)
(dirs, files) = xbmcvfs.listdir('rar://%s' % (path))
for file in files:
  src = 'rar://' + path + '/' + file
  dest = os.path.join(__temp__, file)
xbmcvfs.copy(src, dest)

the script finds the .rar and xbmcvfs.listdir finds the subtitle inside it, but xbmcvfs.copy does not "extract" the subtitle file. Instead i got below error:
ERROR: AddOnLog: RAR archive support: filerar::open failed to open file in cache: special://temp/rarfolderWKscUK/subtitle_file.ass

When I look in the folder mentioned: "/storage/.kodi/temp/rarfolderWKscUK/", it is actually empty.
One more thing I do not understand is why it is using a temp folder, while I specified a "dest" folder ?!?

So basically non of vfs.rar or vfs.libarchive seem to work so far for me in Kodi 18 :/

is anyone else having issues to extract subtitles from a RAR archive with Kodi 18 ?
(i'm using CoreElec 8.99.2)

Thank you

Release - service.subtitles.subscene.foreignonly

As I found it to be quite difficult to identify subtitles containing only the foreign parts (forced) and I had to go to subscene to set the ForeignOnly filter, search and download subtitles manually all the time, I adjusted the existing subscene subtitle addon by CrowleyAJ to search for and download only subtitles with the foreign parts.
Original thread: 184854 (thread)

This release does not intend to replace the existing subscene addon and does not add anything to the original addon, but is meant to be installed in addition to it. This way in the subtitle browser, users have the choice of specifically searching for the foreign only parts if there are any or use the main subscene addon to fall back to the full subtitles.

To install:
- download my repository https://github.com/AnonTester/kodi-repo/...-1.0.0.zip
- Kodi → Addons → Addon Browser → Install from zip file → repository.anontester-1.0.0.zip
- Kodi → Addons → Addon Browser → Install from repository → Wuff's Repository → Subtitles → Subscene.com (ForeignOnly) → install
- Then enable it via Add-ons → My Add-ons → Subtitles → Subscene.com (ForeignOnly) → Enable

Subtitles not downloading/saving properly

$

Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue during the past week or so.  I have OpenSubtitles.org addon installed and up until a week ago it worked beautifully.  Play an episode or movie with no subtitles, click subtitles, download subtitles, a list would populate, for the most part you could pick the first one, it would download AND save to the episode/movie location and the world was good.  Now it seems to have stopped saving them.  It does download them as they work as long as the episode or movie is playing.  However it is NOT saving them to the episode/movie location any more.  I swear to you I have not changed a single setting.  I don't know what caused this to stop working.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as other than uninstalling and reinstalling the addons I don't' know what else to try.

I do know this is only the case on the desktop I'm using connected to my TV.  If i try to download subtitles on my laptop install they download and save as they always did.

Thanks for any assistance

Subtitles add-ons, please add IETF language tags in subtitles filename

$

Hello!
One thing I noticed after start using Subliminal is that no subtitle add-on use the IETF language tags in the subtitles filename. This is good because Kodi understand the language of subtitle! And this is just add a .en for English, .pt-BR for Brazilian portuguese, etc., in the end of subtitle filename. I think it easy do this, isn't?!

subtitle don't play automatically

Hi,
I tried searching and not fond a solution for this.
Is there a way for Kodi to play subtitles automatically if the file is in the same folder?
I guess this should be a default behaviour, but it isn't. Even my 10 years old usb player had that feature. Just need to have movie.avi with movie.srt in the same folder, and when playing the movie it would show the subtitles automatically.
Now I have a wetek play 2, with kodi, and it doesn't auto play the srt subtitle files with the movie. And it's not user friendly to have to load the srt file every single time. What am i doing wrong?
Best regards

v18 - Subtitles does not show whatever I try (on Nvidia Shield)

I would appreciate if someone can look at my log and find out the reason why I cannot show subtitles (present or downloaded). I tried changing default to English and other things I found on this board but it just won't show.

I think it is related to v.18. Just did few test and it turned out that subtitles do not show no matter what I do. Even for the files where they are within video file. For external subtitle (downloaded or already there) I can see them, nest to the file and I can select them but they wont show. Looking through my log I don't see any reference of subtitles? But I am no expert and that is why I ask for help. Please!
