Subtitles on a OLED screen

$

Hi,
I've just bought an OLED C9 TV and I read a few concerns about image retention and burn-in risks about OLED panels. One of the risks seems to be watching subtitled contents because subtitles are often white static pixels appearing over and over so, since I usually watch subtitles contents, I was wondering if there's a way to change slightly the color of the subtitles appearing on the screen so that they are not the same every time. If not I use this post to ask if some developer can create ad addon able to do that?

Thanks.
Pino.

Subtitle is not written to Synology NAS

Hello all,

I am using Kodi 17.3 Openelec 8.04 on a Intel NUC.
All is working fine except the subtitles. Every time I continue a movie I need to download the same subtitle again.
For some reason it does not seem to be written to the NAS.
Kodi is configured with the "Subtitle storage location" set to "Next to the video"
Kodi does download the subtitle from OpenSubtitles.org and puts it on the /storage/.kodi/temp/ folder but does not write it to my Synology NAS.
I have NFS set on my NAS with write access rights for the IP of my Kodi NUC.

Below is my log file with errors on lines 992, 1015 and 1063

What am I doing wrong?
I hope you can help me.

Fetch subtitle from amara.org API for Youtube videos

Hi,

I discover this web service called amara.org which you can contribute subtitles for ANY youtube video (even if you do not own the video).
Amara.org provides a good set of API which I can fetch the subtitle essentially in .srt
However, amara.org runs their own video_id within Amara (but I can match amara.org's video_id with the original Youtube video_id from within amara.org's API)

So I am looking at ways to make Kodi to automatically display subtitle for a Youtube video whenever there are subtitle available for that Youtube video in Amara.org

As i am new to Kodi development, should I look into development a subtitle service addon?
What code base should I be referencing from? (Perhaps service.subtitles.opensubtitle ?)
Or should I put the functionalities into Youtube Addon?

Hello guys, been trying to fix the common problem of the rar files with single\multiple directories and files inside.
I get only the first .srt inside the rar.
I've tried but I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Me, and i'm sure most of us, need Spiff help on this.
@spiff can you please lead the way?
I develop 3 subtitles addon.
Thanks.

Opensubtitles by opensubtitles has stopped working since yesterday

I use the forementioned addon since its 5.1.14 version (3+ years ago) and I got it from its github repo here.
https://github.com/opensubtitles/service...nsubtitles

It is developed by the same devs that make the one that exists on the kodi repo, which demands user credentials in order to work, so please take this into account before saying that this is an "bad" addon and lock my thread.

Since yesterday, I am getting an "error searching for subtitles" as a notification on kodi and nothing more, not a single word for it inside kodi's log. Does anyone else have the same issue?
I assume that the login credentials are now mandatory, so this version of the addon is completely useless.
As a user, I refuse to make any credentials for the site so as to use them with the other addon. The reason is simple: the opensubtitles api is used by tons of players, e.g. vlc, mpc, smplayer and so on, yet it demands credentials on kodi ONLY, which is simply unacceptable.

Since Opensubtitles stops working - can anybody recommend viable alternative? Tried several other add-ons, they all suck of finding subs for movies & tv series.

Request - Properly auto-recognize disc title for subtitle search

Hi,

Note: I am currently using the latest unofficial Kodi MVC build (18.2) with makemkv for BR playback - but this issue most likely applies to 18.6 with aacs method as well.

I use an Intel NUC with Bluray drive & makemkv to view my discs and when playing a disc, the auto subtitle search will search for the subtitle of index.bdmv instead of using the disc name for the search string.
It is cumbersome to manually search for the with the remote control (using CEC with NUC)...

Which source file contains the code that invokes the auto-subtitles search? If its not complicated I might implement it myself or if its already implemented backport it to the MVC build...

Issue with non display of subtitles icon in player

Hi I’m looking for some assistance with playing subtitles through Kodi (v18.2).

I have followed all the instructions in relation to the download of opensubtitles and setting it as the default player.

However, my issue is that when playing media in add on player itself there is no actual subtitle icon to allow for access to the subtitles. All that is available is a pause option and even when paused all that shows is the remaining time. I am using the default player in the add ons. The screen resolution is fine and is set to full screen.

Sorry if this is a straightforward fix. I would appreciate some assistance on how to add or access this subtitles icon in the player as it’s not present at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Kodi won't save the selected subtitle when it is downloaded with an addon

Selected subtitle index is not saved correctly after downloading a new subtitle with an addon  (e.g. Addic7ed). I mean if you select a subtitle from the already downloaded/included ones, Kodi "remembers" that and the next time you open that video it enables the previously selected subtitle. But this is not working with subtitles you've just downloaded with an addon.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Play an episode of a series with an included subtitle
2. Download another subtitle for the video using one of the subtitle add-ons
3. The previously downloaded subtitle is active (OK)
4. Exit from the video playback
5. Open the same episode again, the first subtitle is active and not the one you previously downloaded

Can't figure out why subtitles won't download.

Hello,

Ive used Kodi as my default media player for about a year, and I'm not very technologically advanced.

Unless I download subtitles and put them on my hard drive, I cannot download subtitles using the built in feature.

I can't use opensubtitles because it requires a registered account which I cannot make because I can't access it using my computer.

I have subscene and addic7ed and neither of them can find any subtitles and most of the time shows an error "unable to determine episode data".

If anyone can please assist me, thank you Smile

I'm in Australia BTW

Opensubtitles.org subs lookup delay on Nvidia Shield TV Pro

Hi Team,

I see a fairly significant delay with looking up subs with the Opensubtitles.org Add-on, I hope you can help.

This is my equipment:
- KODI 18.7.2 (tried with some earlier versions too)
- Opensubtitles.org Add-on 5.0.16, configured with a registered username / password
- Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 (December 5 2019 patch level; 8.1 SW version - all the latest) with Android TV OS

This is what happens:
Whenever I navigate to the subtitle settings and click on "Download subtitle", there is an approx 30 seconds delay to find and list the available subtitles.
This did not happen on the previous box I have used (Minix U1 with Android 5.1.1). I have seen on some Nvidia forums that this is experienced by other Shield users too.

I wonder if this is an error with KODI for Andorid TV OS which could be fixed or if there is a workaround available?

Any help / idead would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Antal

Opensubtitles saving Brazilian subtitles without language code.

$

Hello,

There's been an long time issue with opensubtitles addon that Brazilian subtitles downloaded from don't have the language code and are named to something like "Movie..srt" instead of "Movie.pb.srt".

It is mentioned in a post from 2013 (https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=181177) and that post suggested to add a kind of fix with advancedsettings.xml. I've always done that.

But recently I found out there was already a "solution" implemented on opensubtitles addon that stopped working because opensubtitles changed the name given to Brazilian subtitles from "Brazilian" to "Portuguese (BR)".

So I made this small fix on the "service.py" file to make kodi write the language code on downloaded Brazilian subtitles filenames.

I changed the line
Code:
if item_data["LanguageName"] == "Brazilian":
item_data["LanguageName"] = "Portuguese (Brazil)"

to
Code:
if item_data["LanguageName"] == "Portuguese (BR)":
item_data["LanguageName"] = "Portuguese (Brazil)"

On my end, it's working on Kodi Leia and also on kodi matrix. Subtitles are downloaded with "pb.srt" extension and area correctly seen by kodi as "Portuguese (Brazil)" without the language code fix on advancedsettings.xml.

I've made pull requests on github repositories "opensubtitles/service.subtitles.opensubtitles" and the one forked by @juokelis "juokelis / service.subtitles.opensubtitles". But I'm not sure who maintains the addon I'm also sharing it here.

Subtitle file name often not fully visible

The file names of subtitle file names (in the download section of subtitle add-ons) are often longer than the text displayed. How can I see the whole name? There must be a way implemented for the text to roll from left to right (because this has otherwise been an obvious missing function for a very long time).

subtitles fail to load successfully

Kodi 18.7 with opensource subtitles on Firestick 4k. Has worked well in the past. (Just updated to stable ver 18.8 but no change) Now I get an error that says 'subtitles failed to load successfully.' I have re-checked all Subtitle settings per Wiki pages and all *seems* ok. The same issue also occurred with Cinema HD 2.2.2. After uninstalling and re-installing, all works well there. I did use 'SD Maid' cleaner 4.15.9 a couple of times to clean up files...supposedly not harming data...and I'm wondering if a file got deleted. Can anyone point me in the right direction on where to start looking for problems, missing files/location or ? I feel pretty confident that this error has popped up in the past for other users. I know that Opensource subtitles can be a problem (based on some discussion topics) but sure could use some help here. TIA....

Dual language subtitle supported?

I need both English subtitles for Spanish spoken material and Spanish subtitles for English spoken material. Also it would be great if there is an option/add-on for both English and Spanish subtitles to be shown when the language is not one of the two?

Is there any addon allowing to replace the default subtitles from kodi (with .srt)?

Hi,

Sorry for my noob question.
The only thing i d like to do is to get rid of the black border on the default subtitles of kodi (its ok on a flat screen, way less ok on a 3m videoprojection screen).

Is there any subtitle addon allowing to change the subtitle "style" provided as default with kodi when reading a .srt ?
Or all subtitles addon are about geting the subtitles for you (which is not what i am looking for) ?

Many thanks in advance
