Incredible idea for Subtitles add-on, or nope?

$

Imagine an Kodi add-on that will seamlessly generate Subtitles based on Audio track from Movie, TV Show, documentary etc. and display it on screen.

On top of that, it could use Google translate to directly show translation as Subtitle.

Audio --> Generated Subtitle --> Translation to ALL Google Translate languages.

WHY the heck we would need such add-on?!!!
  • Newest Movies don't get Subtitles that fast. INSANE amount of Documentaries NEVER get Subtitles so such add-on would be very useful for Documentaries.
  • Newest Movies, TV Shows, Documentaries ALWAYS 1st get Subtitles on English, with such add-on you could load any Subtitle language (English recommended as it's only available at the beginning) and instantly translate it in real-time to any language during watching.

Automatic recognition and translating might not be very nice experience but it could be up to 60% accurate while instant translation from already created English.srt Subtitle track can be up to 99% accurate. English to any language would be best combination. Same as English Audio to English Subtitle to any language combination. For example, Russian Audio to English Subtitle could not be that good but still...

Kodi is used worldwide for long time already, it has thousands of add-on's and I am really surprised how such add-on is still not made. Sad

As far as I know there is already Google API for Audio recognition and auto translate to any language.

It can't be perfect add-on but at least something. Right?

opensubtitles.org finds old tv series subtitles fine, but not a new ones.

Hey does anyone else have a problem with the opensubtitles addon lately?
The addon can't find subtitles for new TV series like Warrior 2019, but for example, subtitles for Babylon 5 can be found.

Read local/embedded video subtitles

Hi,
is there some way to get access to current video playback subtitles content. I mean the raw data/stream of the subtitle.

I thought for video containers (eg. mkv) and could be great also for streaming video (eg. netflix addon).

I would like do the same moham_96 made with add-on Dual subtitle support (https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=330813), not for downloaded subtitles, but for local ones.

Something like:
Code:
get current video subtitles => select two of them => manipulate (eg. doubling) => inject it in the current video

What it's missing, if I have well understood, is the "get current video subtitles" step. I can get the list, but I don't know how to get the content.

Thanks in advance!

Kodi Android. TV subtitles saved in Temp, Movie subtitles saved next to movie

Hey guys,

I am having a bizarre issue and can't seem to resolve it. I want downloaded subtitles to save next to video file. It works great for movies but not for TV episodes. Kodi database is stored on NAS but there are no permission issues as Movies and TV episodes are all located under the same VIDEO folder with the same inherited permissions. Everyone can (RD/WR) (Besides, if I manually select a custom folder on the NAS, Kodi will save TV episode subtitles there).

Can anyone suggest a way to troubleshoot this? I have no issues with Kodi running from PC, only on Android and for TV episodes.

How to make a new main menu item for Adult add ons

Hi All, newbie here to this site.
I am wondering if there is a way to change or add a new main menu item? (on the left side side you have a list with movies, tv shows, music, add ons etc) when I click on the add ons menu item it takes me to another menu item with video add ons, music add ons etc etc, at this point under my video add ons are all my kodi add ons ive installed from the repositories ie; tempest.
Some of my add ons are for adults only and when the video add ons are showing on the tv screen, our young children can see the video add ons and I would like to create an adult menu item on the side to store these adult add ons so the kids cannot see or have access to the adult addons.
Can this be done? and if so all help is appreciated. currently running kodi Leia v18.9
Cheers

Can't figure out why subtitles won't download.

Hello,

Ive used Kodi as my default media player for about a year, and I'm not very technologically advanced.

Unless I download subtitles and put them on my hard drive, I cannot download subtitles using the built in feature.

I can't use opensubtitles because it requires a registered account which I cannot make because I can't access it using my computer.

I have subscene and addic7ed and neither of them can find any subtitles and most of the time shows an error "unable to determine episode data".

If anyone can please assist me, thank you Smile

I'm in Australia BTW

Subtitle on custom addon!

Hello guys, i have made a simple video addon for a private streaming site.

I habe grabbed the movies and tv shows and the website offers vtt as sub

I found a python script that converts vtt to srt, so my question is.

How do i set the subtitle in a streaming link?

Example.
I search for Lost, press season 1 and episode 1 and the video plays.. How do i set the subtitle to that video?

I was thinking to have it convert the vtt to srt and save it in the temp folder and have it set it as subtitle for the video that is played..

How can this be done?

nextflix add on conflicts with subtitle services

Hi everyone.

The last few days I had problems with the subtitle services in Kodi and in order to ensure I had all the latest software, I updated all add-ons. I also updated the Netflix add-on .
I noticed that when Netflix is activated and I leave the Netflix add-on ( however Netflix remains logged-in in the background), the subtitle services ( like Podnapisi and BSPlayer) are not returning any results anymore and instead an error message ( net error) appears on the screen.
When I log out from Netflix  and reboot Kodi , the subtitle services work well again. I can repeat this over and over again with the same results so apparently The Netflix add-on ( or one of its libraries) conflicts with these other services somehow.
Anyone any idea how to fix this ?.  ( I am using kodi 18.9.0 on libre-elec 9.2.6).  ( note ,I can of course log out from the Netflix add-on every time when I have finished using it, but I thought I drop this issue here as these conflicts should not appear.)

Naming convention

Hello,
I have a few quick questions regarding naming convention of subtitle files that I cannot find an answer for in the wiki:

When naming subtitle files, it seems I can include additional information separated by dots? Like language, forced, sdh, etc?
I like to have the language in last place, can I put an info like .forced or .sdh before that ('moviename.forced.en.mkv') or does forced have to be the final entry ('moviename.en.forced.mkv')?
What do you recommend for multiple subtitle files of the same language? Using 'moviename.1.en.mkv', 'moviename.2.en.mkv' seems to work, or is there an issue with that?
AFAIK if a movie consists of multiple files these could be named 'moviename.part1.mkv', 'moviename.part2.mkv' etc.  Could this somehow possibly clash with the subtitle numbering?

Thanks,
vonson

Custom Subtitle addon problem

Hello,
I've made some years ago for personal use a simple script addon to load a list with subtitles from a local folder. I followed the tutorial and I used a template which was availble then. Before some months, using a subtitle addon I found in its code a way to add it to the list with subtitles addons which opens when activate the "Download Subtitles", which pauses the video.
The problem I have is that I already have a function to pause/unpause the video, and now because the video is paused when the "Download Subtitles" dialog runs, it starts playback again as soon as I activate my addon.
So I'm asking if there is a way to check if this dialog is activated(so I'm using my addon from there) and only pause the video if it's not(I activated my addon without to use "Download Subtitles" option)

When try to install the Subscene Subtitles add-on I get this error: "The dependency on vfs.libarchive 2.0.0 could not be satisfied."

Does anyone know what this means?

When I try to install kodi-vfs-libarchive with Synaptic I get this message: "Package kodi-vfs-libarchive has no available version, but exists in the database. This typically means that the package was mentioned in a dependency and never uploaded, has been obsoleted or is not available with the contents of sources.list"
